Conflicting Studies on the Relationship Between Calcium and Weight Loss
In the past five years, several different studies have been conducted on the relationship between calcium and weight loss. Some preliminary findings showed an increase in weight loss for participants who increased dairy consumption, and based on these studies the dairy industry began bombarding TV watchers with ads showing touting the benefits of drinking skim milk for a slimmer waistline. In 2008, another study was released stating that the advertisements were overstating the effects of milk on weight loss and misleading the American public.
Finally, in 2010 a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition concluded that increased calcium intake only helped to facilitate weight loss in those who were calcium deficient to begin with. Meaning that, lose weight fast calcium is not a magic bullet for those seeking to lose weight. Like any other component of a good weight loss program, calcium should be considered only one component of a healthy lifestyle. When considering how to lose weight, it is important to examine the rest of the diet and other habits to make the necessary changes to maintain a healthy weight.
